So I have a bag of chocolates next to my computer given to me from my wonderful housemates…
It made me think, life really is like a box of chocolates. Specifically, people are like Hershey kisses. We’re mostly the same shape on the outside, sometimes a bit abnormal. Our insides can be crazy different, though. Sometimes we may be sweet and gooey like cherry cordial filling. There are those of us who are filled with richness and wisdom from sweetness that has seen the fire and created caramel. Sometimes we can be hard and indifferent like almonds. Then you have the peanut butter insides with people who are sarcastic and salty, but can still have a tinge of sweetness. One of my favorites are the dark chocolate ones- deeper, aloof, richer, rarer, but not for everyone. Of course, we can’t ignore the milk chocolates, the ones who try to fit into the norm and not stand out. We may try to change our wrappers to seem like we are different, but only heat will show what we are really made of…
What will the heat show about what’s under your wrapper?

I think that if you melt all of the above chocolates down and mix them together…that would be me for today. I am all abnormal, different, sarcastic, sweet, aloof, and try to fit in…..

That just freaked me out. I feel like I should bring a housewarming gift! Perhaps that new Tedd Decker book that is gathering dust on my nightstand? I loved this fun blog Lori. I suppose today I am dark chocolate with caramel centerand a peanut butter chaser. Nothing is simple is it? Nice digs here btw

This is interesting. The thing about me being a hershey’s kiss is, I don’t really know what kind I am yet…it’s only after someone else “tastes” me (get your mind out of the gutter; that is not what I mean!) that what flavour I am is revealed. And as an extremely stubborn and independent person, I’m not sure that sits well with me. I’ve spent the past several years believing and acting on the belief that nobody gets to determine who or what I am except me. In fact, my intensely negative reaction to this simile should probably make me ask whether it isn’t a true one.
So maybe it is true. Or maybe the truth is that the only person who will eat me is God; and I, like others, may see the reality that is me more clearly or less clearly.
God, let us all see who you have made us to be clearly, and live it out.

This was so weird to read your post and in my xanga subscription Jess’s blog was right after yours and she quotes
and yes, as Mama said, “you never know what you’re gonna get.”
did you guys coordinate that?
I’m one of those chocolates that’s not for everyone!

This is so funny that you wrote about life being like chocolates! Mostly cause I did the same thing on the same day! Weirdness.
Which center of the kiss do you think you are most like most often? I would love to think that I am one of the rare dark chocolates, just cause it sounds so exotic and cool. But I’m probably not. In fact, maybe we all change our insides sometimes. Hmm. I wonder what character traits make up those mint-chocolate kisses. Are those the control freaks who want their lives to smell good? Like people that are addicted to brushing their teeth? So, they inject “scope” or whatever into their souls in the efforts to “clean up the junk” in their lives? Hmm. This could turn into a really philosophical discussion…

I loved this post. As soon as I read it, I left the house and went to Publix to buy a bag of peanut butter Hershey’s Kisses. I wonder what that says about me? Maybe that I am salty, sarcastic, with a hint of sweetness. But probably more so, that I am easily influenced and impulsive. Either way, I am enjoying each bite. So thanks and so much for the South Beach diet.

I think I’m almond. But I’m not sure. I don’t even know for sure what the metaphor for that would be.
But I loves me some Jane Austen action figure. Thank you, Tia!

People say, for better or for worse, I’m dark chocolate. Very dark… and you have to dig to find the sweetness. Depends on how much trust we build… unfortunately I have a hard time sampling others. I get migraines when I eat chocolate. God is the deepest, darkest, richest and sweetest of all… and I’ve gotten number of migraines from him.
